Marine Research ▪︎ Conservation ▪︎ Education

Ocean Ecology Network is dedicated to marine research, conservation and education around the world. Although marine turtles are central to Ocean Ecology Network’s current projects, we welcome research and conservation partnerships more broadly in the marine ecosystem.

At Ocean Ecology Network, we promote science-based conservation strategies built on a deep understanding of conservation challenges and years of hands-on involvement in projects globally. We understand that conservation is a long-term effort and that small victories add up to save our precious marine world. Our philosophy incorporates wisdom, patience, hope, and compassion, resulting in a balanced, holistic, and realistic approach that integrates people into conservation solutions.

Marine Turtles Project
(on-going)

We work with local partners (NGOs, local communities, governments and relevant institutions) on the conservation and management of sea turtles in the Indian, Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans, as well as the Mediterranean Sea.

We focus on: nesting beach monitoring and management, maximizing hatchling production through creative management strategies, evaluating and mitigating the impact of artisanal and commercial fisheries on marine turtle populations, building partnerships with governments, empowerment of local coastal communities for conservation, and strengthening the skills and capacity of local partners.

Artificial Reef Project

As a team member of Kuddle Life Foundation, Pondicherry, India, Ocean Ecology Network is involved in the design and implementation of an artificial reef project in the waters of Pondicherry. The goals of this project are to:

  • Establish, monitor, and manage a network of artificial reefs along the Pondicherry coast that supports healthy marine ecosystems, and promotes fish biodiversity and productivity in collaboration with the local fishing communities and other stakeholders

  • Create a sustainable livelihood for the local artisanal fishing community

  • Promote good marine conservation practices through education, outreach and research.

Ocean Music Project (2021)

This project promotes songs from local communities working with sea turtles around the globe. More details to follow on coastal music from Sierra Leone, Liberia, India, and Indonesia.
