In 2004, Ocean Ecology Network and Dr. Manjula Tiwari joined forces with Edward Aruna to initiate a groundbreaking sea turtle conservation project in Sierra Leone. Over two decades of dedication, innovation, and relentless hard work have culminated in a remarkable achievement: Edward Aruna, leader of the Reptile and Amphibian Program - Sierra Leone (RAP-SL), was honored with the Tusk Award for Conservation in Africa 2024.

Presented by HRH Prince William, Prince of Wales, this prestigious award celebrates Edward’s outstanding contributions to wildlife conservation and underscores the impact of long-term collaboration. Ocean Ecology Network is incredibly proud to have been part of this journey. Huge congratulations to Edward on this well-deserved recognition.

On 27 November 2024, at the iconic Savoy in London, HRH Prince William, Prince of Wales, delivered a powerful and inspirational speech at the Tusk Conservation Awards 2024. His message emphasized the urgency of investing in the natural world and understanding its immeasurable value for current and future generations. It was an honor to attend such an impactful event, celebrating the dedication of conservation heroes from across Africa, that included Ocean Ecology Network’s partner, Edward Aruna from Reptile and Amphibian Project, Sierra Leone (RAP-SL).
